Rob Cannillo has always had a story to tell. His songs are
filled with depth and meaning while his gritty smooth vocals make you feel his
lyrics. He was writing song lyrics before he knew how to play guitar, self
taught so he could put music to the stories in his own head. Rob was influenced
by Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, The Allman Brothers and the like. The messages in his
songs are timeless, his music is firmly rooted in the present. As a solo
acoustic performer, Rob is mezermerizing. "You're voice is your instrument." While
Rob's music is evocative of many established artists, the honesty and experience
behind each song is pure and original. His songs speak of real life struggles
and questions and are expressed with grounded lyrics and a hopeful outlook.
Rob began by doing open mic nights, then moved on to larger
regional venues known for original music. Rob also spent time on The Tour for
the Cure, traveling 3600 miles to raise money and awareness for cancer through
performances. Rob was able to perform at the famous Wild Horse Saloon in
Nashville. While on tour, Gil Bankston, an aspiring filmmaker, filmed a
documentary, The Long Road Home, highlighting Rob's music and personal journey.
Rob has 2 studio albums released, his debut "The Long Road Home" - 2002, and his
followup "What Life Can Be" - 2005 and has played many live performances
recently and in the past, he is also organizing his own "Concert For a Cause", a
music festival benefit for Spectrum For Living at the Tuxedo Ridge Ski Area in
Tuxedo, NY for early September. Rob is a true original artist, playing
passionately and from the soul. His style has been referred to as "...a little
Gregg Allman, a bluesy John Mayer, a male Bonnie Raitt, a little John
Mellencamp, a little Bob Dylan, a little Bruce, some Dave Matthews, but mostly
Rob."
"Gritty, down to earth, raw style, and meaningful lyrics make
Rob a great performer." - Marta Burton, Tuscan Cafe
"Rob's songs, the way he sings them and the way this band interprets them... it
all adds up to magic! When the Rob Cannillo and Friends Band is playing, I am
there!" -Robyn Taylor, 101.5 FM WPDH Poughkeepsie
