Amphitheater summer concert series ends on a high note

The 2008 open-air concert season at the outdoor amphitheater in Camp Jefferson concluded on Sat., Aug. 30 with two shows.
First up was Rob Cannillo, a New Jersey singer and songwriter who also plays acoustic guitar and harmonica At the amphitheater concert, Cannillo was joined by Neal Grover on keyboard, Rick Pisani on drums, and Will Smith on saxophone. Smith thrilled the audience with several octave-spanning, spine-tingling sax solos that provided a smooth contrast to Cannillo’s equally smooth vocals.

Every so often I'll hear a singer/songwriter for the first time and immediately purchase the CD. That's just how it was when I heard Rob Cannillo performing at a trendy little place called The Grind.
A hush spread throughout the place as Rob and Friends began to play, proving once again that exceptional music produced by fine musicians can be found in the most unlikely places.
Ignoring the well meaning advice of fellow musicians, friends and family to "play songs that people know", Rob plays his gritty sounding original songs anywhere he can.
It his his original songs that touch the lives of so many who thank him for his crusade in the fight against cancer.
